Independent Living

Living on your own is a goal many individuals look forward to accomplishing. Momentum students are guided through the basics of living independently by practicing the necessary skills on campus. Proper hygiene and household skills are discussed and practiced, and the importance of each is related to personal success.

Nutrition is a major emphasis in the Momentum Program, and students plan, shop for, and prepare a replicable meal together every other week.

Health and fitness are encouraged as students visit a local gym together weekly in order to participate in physical activity. It is important to introduce these concepts to young adults, and the Momentum staff strive to cultivate well-rounded individuals.

Weekly presentations are offered discussing different aspects of independent living (i.e. understanding daily habits, strategies for healthy living, the importance of taking ownership and responsibility, etc) including interactive, structured discussions and topical case-studies. This allows us to prepare each student, given their present and individual limitations, to develop strategies to succeed once they leave the shelter and support of their parents’ home.
